Welcome! Because of its location, this is the house we've wanted most in the world for years and years. Noticing in the summer of 2024 the long time tenants were gone from the double wide in the backyard, we sent the owners a letter with an offer. Long story short, it's ours now. We didn't even look in the windows before making the offer. Once we got inside, we were excited by the chaos! See for yourself.
Built in 1921, we bought it from the next door neighbor. He was born in this house in the 1940's.
The back porch was added in the 1940's after converting the back corner porch into a bedroom. At some point, this porch housed a carpeted laundry room.
Right inside the front door, we were met with a central hallway with beaded board walls and ceiling + a staircase to a surprise second floor! To the left was or neighbor's childhood bedroom and to the right the living room.
Abandoned so long ago, birds were living in the chimney & living room, animals roamed the house, and all else just sat where it had been left decades prior.
This is a view into Jerry's childhood bedroom. It then belonged to one of his children and housed books, trophies, and toys from the 1980's.
The back of the house was not the best of surprises with a long gone kitchen, ceilings caving in, and a porch we couldn't access due to waist high debris.
We were thrilled with the upstairs, likely finished later than the rest of the house and cleaner in every way!
The house wasn't insulated, so former owner (aka next door neighbor) insulated from the outside with vinyl siding & storm windows. While this makes sense, we are taking the look back to the original 1920's structure and insulating inside the walls + adding heat and air.
Walk through the house with me!
We went under contract without going inside first, and when we did go in, we weren't deterred. It was better than we thought overall if not in the condition we hoped.
We have loved this area for a very long time. Both of us have been coming up here since the 1970's, but we didn't discover the valley until about 10 years ago. It's incredibly peaceful while located right up the road from one of our favorite small towns.
